Race Day at PIR

July 19, 2009

Hershel was feeling a little racy yesterday during practice…the tire barrier jumped out in front of him causing front end cosmetic damage.

We’re hoping to better his practice position which was 16th overall.  Qualifying is today at 11:00 (PST)  and will be European style, Hershel will have 8 minutes track time in which to obtain a qualifying position.

Gorgeous Portland weather…blue skies, cool temps (as of 9:00 am) and slight breeze.

Photos and more news to follow.

Go Herschel! You and Tom Watson (tied for the lead in the British Open at this moment) are inspirations to all those of us who won’t see 60 again, and besides that you’re sending a message to the kids who think we’re all over the hill because we have some gray hairs. Well, those of us who have hair left…
Anyway, I’m rooting for a great race and a strong showing from you! Hell, I’m rooting for a win, why kid either of us?

Racing is a lot like poker in that when playing poker it’s not important that you win every hand nor is it important that you win the biggest pot. In either event what is important is to better your standing as often as possible. Simply by qualifying in the NASCAR Camping World West Series race Hershel has become the oldest driver ever to compete in a national NASCAR series race setting one of the most prestigious records in automotive racing history. In doing so Hershel has once again improved his hand adding to the many accolades of his many accomplishments and it’s going to be a cold day in hell before anyone breaks this record. Hershel YOU THE MAN! Remember those old Bud Lite commercials… I love you man!

Oops, sorry for the misspelling, Hershel. I’ll get it right next time.
